A Void, as in exactly the ocean (Stein Poem)

February 2, 2013
by

The objects of sense.
Their bodies inhibited.
A place has been directed.
A void filling with ease.
Having intercourse with confusion.
Every one now knows the direction.
One can get an erection by force.
I don’t know what kind of affection.
Is it to be solved or dissolved in union.
I don’t know how to live inside.
And all this beauty of solids.
All that came over me and should be a delight.
It is made to be solved or dissolved in union.
A way of looking at midnight.
All the world is part of looking.
A mind with images, a surface.
A way of looking at nothing.
It is not confined to the positive.
That would be strange.
Its equivalents and activity.
Like that is exactly the ocean.
The mountain is rose trees.
A head should be able to evaporate.
The landscape, afloat.
The tide seems to go now out now oh yes now.
All day long without respite or change.
A void filling with ease.
